The Academy of Integrated Science (https://www.ais.science.vt.edu) in the College of Science at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Faculty member at the Assistant or Associate level who will play a central role in our minor in Behavioral Decision Science. This minor is in collaboration with the departments of Economics, Psychology and the School of Neuroscience. The preferred candidate will have a record of pedagogical achievement and vision, creativity, and leadership skills relevant to instruction. Evidence of interdisciplinary teaching and experience in teaching courses related to Behavioral and Decision science would be also advantageous.
We seek candidates who have a Ph.D. in any relevant field related to Decision Sciences (for example Economics, Neuroscience, Psychology, Decision Science, or Applied Math) and who are passionate about interdisciplinary teaching of undergraduate students in an inclusive and integrated environment. Candidates seeking the rank of Collegiate Associate Professor should have significant teaching experience and, ideally, experience with program development. In addition to teaching experience, desirable candidates should have broad training in the study of human decision-making at the individual, group, and/or organizational level. In particular, preferred candidates will exhibit expertise in judgment and decision-making, formal modeling in decision theory (expected utility and prospect theory) and/or game theory.
Collegiate Faculty primarily contribute to the educational mission of the College of Science. This includes making significant contributions to our interdisciplinary undergraduate instruction, working closely with our undergraduate students, and leading efforts in curriculum enhancements and innovative pedagogy. Though research is not the primary focus on the position, Collegiate Faculty are expected to continue to develop professional capabilities and participate in scholarly activities, including travel to and participation in professional conferences and societies. Research activities can relate to Behavior and Decision Science or Pedagogy. Finally, Collegiate Faculty participate in department, college, and university service and governance, as well as professional service.
